Heidi Howard: Colors make us do vibrant deeds!

September 9–October 10, 2024

Reception and book launch: Friday, September 27, 5–7 pm

The Neiman Center is pleased to present an exhibition of Heidi Howard's prints and paintings in conjunction with the launch of Howard's first monograph. "Colors make us do vibrant deeds!" is the result of a three year collaboration between Howard and graphic designer and Phoebe Press Publisher, M. H. Orfanos. Howard has been painting portraits for almost twenty years. Since 2018 they have expanded their portrait practice into wall paintings and collaborations with their chosen family, architecture and nature. In this exhibition, Howard will feature a series of self-portraits, their first silkscreens started at the Rauschenberg residency in 2020, alongside paintings referencing Matisse's series of women before aquariums, Warhol's self-portraits, and other iconic images of faces. Howard will also show portraits from the past three years transforming the gallery space into an installation where viewers can interact with Howard’s book, paintings and prints.

Heidi Howard has exhibited at many prestigious venues including Wave Hill Garden and Cultural Center, Gaa Gallery, Rhode Island School of Design, Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art, the Queens Museum, W139, The Hunterdon Museum of Art, and James Cohan Gallery. Howard has been awarded artist residencies including the Terra Summer Residency, Rauschenberg Residency, Carrizozo AIR, and Palazzo Monti. Their work has been discussed in Vogue Magazine, The Paris Review, and The Brooklyn Rail, amongst other publications.
