“The imagery is a layering of photographs I've taken during the pandemic, engravings from the 18th century, and a celestial map from the 15th century. I see the layering of these things as a playful and unscripted way to try and explain things that I don't fully understand. I like digging up these old images and seeing how they change when juxtaposed with something contemporary, or from a different area. Maps are the most interesting to me, since they share information about physical, and in this case conceptual, space and time.”

Jeremy Ruiz is an artist working in print, drawing, photo, and sculpture. Using imagery from art history, colonialism, cartography, cosmology, and contemporary life, Jeremy weaves together real and imagined narratives that explore what events have led us to where we are today; speaking the languages we do, in the places we inhabit, existing within the cultures we do now. On a more personal level Ruiz explores multiracial identities and how to navigate a globalized world while existing in a self perceived gray space
Jeremy has worked as a printmaker for 6 years after graduating with a BFA from SUNY Purchase College in 2015.
